I have noticed that the Capitol and the U.S. government are alike. The obvious reasons, of course, is that they are both the leading governments, control the territories within its claims (districts-states) and the military forces, and also have "smaller" power/political jobs, such as the district mayors. What I also found was that Katniss describes the dressings of the Capitol people, at points, so grotesque. I believe that Katniss is saying aloud how some people today (not all) think about people in the U.S. government. They wear suits, ties, are well kept, and always have a 'nice' tone to their voices, compared to Effie's and all the other Capitol natives' accent and dynamic clothes.
I also think that a really huge similarity between our government and the Capitol is that they can "squash us like a bug". I believe this because although the government is not as harsh as the Capitol, it just might be at times. The U.S. can literally destroy so many countries just as the Capitol so called did to Disstrict 13. The U.S. can also destroy us as well because (though it was a long time ago) when a riot erupted against the government (for the whiskey rebellion), George Washington sent 15,000 militia men to stop the riot. If they did this once, they can probably do it again.
But I do think that Suzanne Collins is trying to critique the modern/western life style by somewhat exaggerating what will happen in the near and/or far future. Especially with the ignored care for the environment, poverty levels increasing, and overall health of the american...........
