While the Capitol seems to have every sort of possible technology, the Districts seem to have next to nothing. Most of them have never even had an orange, or orange juice, or even hot chocolate. The time that the Hunger Games takes place has to be pretty far into the future, because of all the new inventions that pop up throughout the series. There are hover crafts, and arenas that are different each year.
However, from the beginning, it was only the Capitol that had those things.

ReplyDeleteWell, it is obviously wrong for the Capitol to hide its technology from the Districts, but they are a dictatorship. They had good reason to keep their knowledge secret if they wanted to remain in control. Think about it: If you were in a fight or something, and you had the advantage, you wouldn't stop mid-punch and give your opponent a knife! I agree that it is wrong that they did not give the Districts some sort of weapon, but for the Capitol, it was a smart tactical decision not to share the knowledge with the districts.
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question, yes, I would have given the districts technology, but if I was running, it wouldn't be a dictatorship. It would be a democracy.
*****They couldn't have hidden all as much technology as you think, because District 3's specialty is technology and electronics. The boy from District 3 knew how to make landmines, so...
I disagree with Sarah on this one. If I were to ever run a dictatorship I would give the districts only the basics, just to let them manage. I know I’m cruel, but think about it; if you’re in a fight and you want to win your most likely will if you have the upper hand.
ReplyDeleteAccording to me, I would want to have the superiority in a battle, especially in a war. You don’t want your enemy to appear before you with an advanced technology and seem like a fool. Plus the reason why the Capitol is not giving the technology to the districts is to help remind them that they lost the war and will always be in deep…mud.
The Capitol wants to make them suffer, make their life an actual living hell. Every possible way to torture them and make them seem idiotic is a win for the Capitol. It will also help keep an up rage from happening. Technology also seemed to be the key to winning in Mocking Jay, especially with the buildings of bombs and weapons.
So, no I would definitely not give a lot of technology gadgets to the districts I would make sure they have to suffer a lot to gain any knowledge on technology. Besides the less the districts knew the better for the Capitol. In other words ignorance can sometimes be bliss or so the Capitol thought.
