It’s unfair to let 12 year olds compete in the Hunger Games. In fact, the whole thing about Hunger Games is ridiculous. A 12 year old competing to her death sounds like a horror movie!
One slip in thousands! The odds and I quote “be ever in your favor!” for Prim this was true. She had no true reason to be elected; she was probably the least to get chosen and her sister did everything in her power to protect her. Katniss made sure to take all the tesserae.
The Hunger Games were just another way to make sure the Districts remembered how weak they were and remind them that the Capitol were the powerful ones and they were the only ones who dictated what exactly went on in Panem.
I feel that if the Capitol needs to use kids in order to make everyone cringe and behave under their orders then they aren’t all mighty and powerful. Who needs to stoop as low as attacking innocent children to help remind everyone that the Districts were worthless?
If I were the leader of the Capitol I surely wouldn’t use innocent kids; I would use everyone. This may sound cruel, but if you’re a dictator I would remind everyone that no matter where you hide you can’t run because in the end I would find you and make you pay. I wouldn’t attack one set of age group I would attack the young, old and middle age.
I get were the Capitol is coming from. Attack the most valued. That’s the Capitols’ motto. What hurts most: feeling the pain the comes from suffering or the pain that comes form watching people you love and deeply care about suffer and possibly die knowing you can’t do anything but watch?
I know if I had a child I would take the pain or torture. I wouldn’t be able to watch my kid die before my eyes, especially if its being broadcast as television show. But to stoop as low as that? I don’t know. If you were the Capitol how would you make sure that the Districts remember that they are the weaklings? Would you continue the Hunger Games or make up some other law? What pain hurts more: suffering or watching people suffer?

If I were the Capitol, I would have tried to stop the rebellion with a diplomatic solution. Although this is never mentioned in the series, I believe that the Capitol never tried to solve the issues between itself and the districts. They probably just sat on their butts, waited until they had an excuse, and blew up whatever they could.
ReplyDeleteI agree, to try and imagine yourself or someone you love having to be part of such a thing as the Hunger Games is horrifying. To watch someone you love die, and knowing that the whole world is watching. It's sickening to think that the Capitol lives in a modern city with all the luxuries and food a person could imagine while most of their world lives in hunger, death, unhappiness, fear, hardship, and many more awful things, much like our world today.
ReplyDeleteOkay, that's for your own flesh and blood, but would you really have tried to change it if the person chosen was simply some stranger? Would you willingly put yourself on the line for a stranger? Would you fight for them knowing it could end in your death? I mean, if you did and lost, and the chances of you losing are higher than you winning, would you really want to put your family through losing you? I don't just mean you actually switching places with them, but even you speaking to the counsel about what you thought of the games? Because that could result in your death as well.
