Just from reading a lot of these posts here and everything, I've realized that a lot of people say that the world that they (Peeta a Katniss) live in as wrong and such. The thing that I gathered from this whole idea is that it is because of children. For some reason, the world goes crazy when a child goes missing and when a child gets hurt and when a child is murdered. It is so different when it is an adult, of course people still care, but it isn't the same.
I mean, if you think about it, the stuff that goes in the Hunger Games is the same stuff that goes on today. I mean, children are murdered so often and go missing daily. In the book, people either just watch it and don't say anything, or it disturbs them and they are sitting their and throwing up in their hands, but they don't do anything but pray because they don't think they can do anything about it. We as humans ignore things all the time. For example, in the James Bulgar murder, two 1 0 year old boys walked miles to railroad tracks with a kidnapped two year old where they beat him to death, threw bricks at him, threw paint in his eyes, etc. The point is, so many people saw these boys take the crying smaller boy and did nothing about it. How does that happen?
In the book AND in the world, despite whatever is going on, people ignore what is going on. It doesn't matter what situation you are in. Whether it's you ignoring 2 boys with a 2 year old asking for it's mom or you ignoring someone bullying a fellow classmate, everyone is guilty of ignoring. Small things lead to bigger things.
IMPORTANT
*if you're going to research the James Bulgar murder, I warn you, it is very disturbing.

Why do you think people would rather live unaware of things like this? Is there an answer to this? Do you think that artists (of any kind...writers, film makers, photographers, journalists) are people who fight to share information? If people started paying attention would they change the way they live?
ReplyDeleteSo many questions. Thought provoking post.
I think you make really good points in your blog post. they are very thought provoking (as Ms.R said already) and really make you think. Though I don't think the murder you are describing is a good example, since it probably wouldn't seem so weird for the two boys to be taking the crying 2 year old. 2 year olds cry all the time. But otherwise, I totally agree that people frequently turn a blind eye or don't do anything, even though they are well aware of something terrible happening, and they have the power to do something or at least say something about it. But they don't.
