Prim

I just finished re-reading Mockingjay. And I needed to blog.
Throughout the entire series, Prim herself may not have appeared as much as Katniss, Gale, Peeta, or Haymitch. But I've always felt that, although Katniss was undoubtedly the main character, the entire series was about Prim. It all started because Katniss volunteered to save Prim. She teamed up with Rue  because she reminded her of Prim. And when Prim was killed by Gale's bond, that was what severed the very love triangle that had been running in the subplot longer than the idea of rebellion had been. So what I was wondering was: Why do you think Suzanne Collins made her who she was?
In my opinion, Prim was without a doubt the most utterly good person in the series. Young, brave, loving, and training to be a doctor, she was the one character you could really relate to someone you knew- a sister, a little cousin, the sweet little girl who lives next door. So why do you think Suzanne Collins killed her off in the end? I mean, it certainly didn't raise my opinion of the  books- no, as a matter of fact, when I was weeping like a baby over the book, I was mentally disowning the series for being just too utterly depressing! So why do you think she did it?
