The Panem Rulebook to Fear

There are thousands of ways to rule a country; some work better than others, some instigate rebellions, and some let people live in peace. The Capitol uses a very important factor of our every day lives... Fear. Fear of losing our loved ones, fear of being taken away, whipped, killed. The Capitol gives us examples... They are like a school, a class that writes whatever they want on the board. On it there is an Avox, a Hunger Games Pamphlet, and a Fence. They give us examples of what can happen to us. If you speak up against the Capitol your tongue gets cut out. And every year you have the chance of being sent to a blood-bath of a game. The Capitol wants the people to stay down, stay defenseless against the world; unable to run away, trapped in an electric fence, and contained by many traps.
This is how they rule, silencing the rebellious, subdueing the naughty, and inspiring fear throughout the districts, while the Capitol sits on an eternal amount of goods, watching the districts fight one another to the death.

  1. I totally agree with you. That being said, do you think that it is wrong that the people of the town don't say or do anything against the games? I mean, yes, they are fearing for their own lives, but at the same time, do you think it is selfish of them to not do anything? do you think that if you were to be put in their situations, you would do something?

  2. I think you got the captiol dead on, sean. And the fact that the capitol rules with fear means another thing- it's the only power they have. Maybe not at the beginning, true- but after years of ruling with fear and intimidation, they had a nation that hated the government, but was too scared to do anything. Well, that just leads to using more fear to rule, because what happens if they try another method and the citizens no longer are afraid? The hated government becomes the overthrowable government, and before new opinions have time to be formed, old opinions lead to action. And @ Alinah- I don't know. Most of the people are just born into this way of life- they may hate it, but it's all that they know. Maybe that contributes to it?
